Highlights of our division include:
- We maintain one of the busiest lung transplant programs in the United States. Our waiting times are the shortest in the country and our survival rates consistently beat the national averages.
- Duke surgeons have performed more than 2,250 lung transplants
- We completed more than 100 lung transplants in 2021, which makes us one of the largest programs in the country.
- The median wait time on our lung transplant list is about 15 days, compared with 70 days nationwide.
- Our shorter lung transplant wait times are in part due to our aggressive and innovative organ-recovery efforts.
- Our approach enables us to procure and successfully match more viable organs with more people who need them
- Duke Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Environmental Physiology is the only hyperbaric facility in North Carolina accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and the first in North America to receive accreditation "With Distinction." It is also the only facility in the state staffed with physicians who are board-certified in the specialty of hyperbaric medicine.
